Welcome to my journal, a small corner of my website where I share my love for flowers, wedding florals and the magical moments in between.

This space is part scrapbook, part storybook; a place to gather memories, inspiration and the little behind-the-scenes moments that make being a florist so special.

Meet Rebecca

It all begins with an idea.

Hello, I’m Rebecca (Bex) the heart and hands behind The Botany House. If you’re here, then I’m hoping you love flowers too. For me they’re more than just my work, they’re a constant source of inspiration and a thread that connects every chapter of my life.

I’ve always been drawn to flowers. As a child I was incredibly messy, spending hours outside in my own little world. I’d make potions out of petals and pies out of mud. I would see fairies hiding in the trees and pixie hats made from flower heads. I’ve always been a day dreamer; painfully shy and quiet, preferring to draw or colour in rather than join in with sports or be the centre of attention. I had a little playhouse in the garden that I was very proud of. My Nanny and I would fill the flower beds beside it with bluebells, primroses and pansies. Today my greenhouse sits in the same spot and I still grow hundreds of pansies, just like I did back then.

My heart was always drawn to weddings. I left my florist shop job, knowing I needed more scope for creativity and to follow my passion for designing for weddings and events. That leap of faith led me to start my business and here I am today, so extremely lucky to get to call

The Botany House my own.

Despite it just being me at the head of The Botany House, my family have always been there for me. They’ve tirelessly supported me in every way possible, from wedding set-ups, to driving vans when I was too scared to navigate the country roads, to travelling across the UK with me for weddings. And of course they’ve helped tidy up my workshop, which is guaranteed to be a complete tip after a wedding or event. We converted my parent’s garage into my perfect studio which is where my designs come to life. Of course, I couldn’t do any of this without my two best pet friends: Finley, my black Labrador cross cocker spaniel, who’s my one and only full-time employee, and Norbert my cat, who’s a bit more of a silent supporter. He doesn’t love the workshop, but he’s always there for a cuddle after a long day.

Inspiration for my work comes from the natural world; from gardens, from the wildflowers that grow freely in meadows surrounding me in Norfolk, and from the ever-changing seasons. I adore the subtle, flowing colours of watercolour palettes, where one colour melts into the next. I’ve always loved the wildness of meadows, untamed and whimsical, with daisies dancing in the wind. Then there’s the timeless elegance of English gardens, overflowing with roses, peonies, and delphiniums, full of romance and abundance. Each season offers a new wave of inspiration; from cherry blossom in spring to climbing sweet peas and roses in early summer, the warm tones of autumn berries and foliage, to the crisp greenery and delicate blooms of winter.

This all feeds into my style, one that is grounded in nature and always linked back to the wild, untamed beauty of the world around us. I love working with groupings and clusters of blooms, allowing petals to ruffle and shapes to ramble. If you peel open a petal, there’s never just one shade and I carry this notion into my most favourite designs. The Pansies I grow are the most perfect example of this. A pink pansy is never just a pink pansy. It’s flecked with shades of the most vibrant yellow/orange or edged by the palest periwinkle.

If you ask me about my favourite floral installation to make, I’ll always say an archway. I love the timeless romance they bring to weddings and I’m drawn to how natural and abundant they can feel. There’s something so beautiful about a climbing rose, winding its way up an arch, surrounding you in its soft, fragrant scent. Creating archways in churches is a special favourite of mine, the combination of stone architecture and history, paired with romantically beautiful flowers, is always nothing short of breathtaking.

From my first flowerbed beside my playhouse to the archways I create today, every bloom I touch holds a bit of childhood magic for the little girl who loved to play with flowers. Everyone loves flowers; they tell a story, capture an emotion or ignite a memory lost to time. I love how my work creates these moments for other people, deeply personal and everlasting.

Lots of Love
