Finolla and Matt at Cornwell Manor in The Cotswolds
Finolla and Matt’s three-day celebration at Cornwell Manor was everything I adore about September weddings in the Cotswolds; generous, deeply considered and full of atmosphere. From a relaxed garden dinner on the first evening, through to a sunshine-filled ceremony and sailcloth marquee celebration and finishing with a laid-back recovery brunch by the pool, this was a wedding designed to be lived in and enjoyed.
Cornwell Manor has long been on my wish list (it’s also famously known as the filming location for The Holiday) and after this weekend it has become a firm favourite for me and the whole team.
The palette
The colour story leaned gently into the softness of early autumn. Blush and pale pinks sat alongside peachy nudes and creamy whites, with deeper mulberry tones and rich, verdant foliage grounding the designs. Everything felt light, romantic and intentionally imperfect; very much led by season and texture rather than symmetry.
For the opening evening in the garden, we kept the palette soft and playful with daisies, pale pink roses and white cosmos, paired with delicate ikebana bowls and the most beautiful pale pink table lamps. That gentle glow became a thread that carried through the whole weekend.
Flower varieties and seasonal ingredients
For the wedding day, we focused on flowers that really sing in September.
Café au lait dahlias brought warmth and softness. Ruffled garden roses were the backbone of the designs; always loose, never formal. White cosmos and chocolate cosmos added movement and contrast, while crème brûlée and cherry caramel phlox layered in those soft nude and blush tones that I love so much.
Blackberries and grasses threaded through the designs for a hedgerow feel and abelia foliage softened edges and helped everything feel settled into the landscape rather than placed on top of it.
The result was a collection of arrangements that felt deeply seasonal, textural and quietly luxurious.
Ceremony by the fountain
The ceremony took place in the early afternoon, in glorious sunshine. Guests made their way down the iconic stepped aisle at Cornwell Manor, a truly unforgettable entrance, before gathering in front of the fountain.
We created clustered, garden-style arrangements around the fountain itself, allowing the water feature to remain the hero while being gently wrapped in flowers. The aisle was lined with soft, abundant meadow-style planting, filled with roses, cosmos, phlox, grasses and blackberries so it felt as though the flowers had grown naturally along the lawn.
It was one of those perfect moments where setting, light and flowers all beautifully aligned.
Drinks reception overlooking the valley
After the ceremony, guests moved to the terrace overlooking the valley for drinks. We made beautiful seasonally inspired bowls styled them across the poseur tables alongside the pale pink lamps.
This was one of my favourite parts of a wedding day, each bowl captured and showcased the most beautiful floral elements of the floral scheme. The perfect balance of soft shades mixed with deep, mulberry tones.
Dinner and dancing in the sailcloth marquee
The reception was hosted inside a stunning sailcloth marquee. Overhead, we installed a flowing foliage ceiling, creating soft green movement above the tables and drawing the eye upwards without overwhelming the space.
Each table was dressed with carefully curated bud vases, arranged in specific floral groupings. My personal favourites were the pairings of chocolate cosmos with Rosanne brown lisianthus and white cosmos styled with trailing blackberries; tiny combinations, but full of character and depth.
The ceremony flowers were repurposed throughout the marquee to dress the ends of the long tables, the bar and the stage, ensuring the entire space felt cohesive and abundant.
Dancing took place beneath the foliage installation, and the celebrations continued into the ballroom for the afterparty.
The night before and the day after
The first evening was a relaxed garden dinner, designed to feel informal and intimate. Daisy, pale pink rose and cosmos ikebana bowls sat alongside glowing pink lamps, setting the tone for a weekend that felt joyful and gently styled rather than overworked.
The following morning, we returned to style a recovery brunch by the pool beneath a stretch tent. Using the same bowls, bar urns and bud vases from the wedding day, we repurposed the flowers to create a softer, more relaxed atmosphere for guests enjoying delicious barbecue food and easing gently into the day after celebrations.
A few honest moments from behind the scenes
This wedding was a complete pleasure from start to finish. I spent the first prep day back at my studio in Norfolk with my incredible local freelancers, before driving to the Cotswolds and joining another wonderful group of florists on site.
There is something incredibly special about building a temporary team for a wedding like this; everyone bringing their experience, generosity and care to the same creative goal. The whole weekend felt calm, collaborative and genuinely joyful to be part of.
Cornwell Manor quickly became a favourite venue for all of us.
Planning and partners
This celebration was planned and designed with Amy at Attabara Studio. I absolutely love working with her; her eye for detail, warmth and steady organisation made the entire three-day celebration flow beautifully.
Finolla and Matt’s wedding was one of those rare weekends where every part of the process felt considered, kind and creatively fulfilling. It is exactly the sort of work I feel incredibly lucky to be part of.
